Many of us have been stocking up on hand sanitiser to protect ourselves against coronavirus .
The anti-bacterial fluid contains alcohol that helps us to rid germs.
But while it’s good for using in your palms, it shouldn’t be applied to your nether regions.
This may seem like pretty obvious advice, but some have been using the lotion to masturbate with.
Various Reddit users admitted to smothering hand sanitiser onto their groins.
This isn’t recommended by health professionals – who say it can damage your intimate areas.
Dr Earim Chaudry, medical director at Manual, spoke to Metro about the worrying health trend.
He warned against using hand sanitisers on sensitive skin because many of them contain “isopropyl alcohol”.
The health expert said: “Masturbation is a natural thing that many people enjoy. However I strongly advise not to use hand sanitiser on your genitals to masturbate…
“One of the main ingredients in many hand sanitisers is isopropyl alcohol.
“Isopropyl alcohol is not safe for internal use, and if used whilst masturbating it could make its way down your vaginal or penile opening – this will damage the internal skin.
“Alcohol is drying, and the skin on your genitals is also sensitive and just as easily damaged.”
If you are looking for a way to make sex or masturbation run more smoothly, we’d recommend using a water-based lubricant instead.
These are safe to slather down there – and most are compatible with condom use too.
It’s probably easier to find lube in shops than it is to pick up hand sanitiser too – so it’s a no brainer.
