Manchester United target Fred flies to England ahead of transfer

Fred has flown to England with the Brazil national team ahead of potentially completing a transfer to Manchester United.

Brazil will train in London this week before they travel to Anfield for a World Cup warm-up with Croatia on Saturday. The Seleção will then fly to Vienna to face Austria ahead of their World Cup opener against Switzerland in Rostov on June 17.

United would prefer to conclude a deal for Fred, 25, before the World Cup and the MEN revealed last week they are close to reaching an agreement with the Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder. Fred’s agent Gilberto Silva flew to London last week and is believed to have held additional dialogue to escalate the transfer.

Fred confirmed at a press conference in Rio de Janeiro last week his representatives had held ‘advanced talks with United’ after a January switch to Manchester City collapsed.

“There have been some advanced talks since January, when I almost went to Man City,” Fred said at a press conference in Rio de Janeiro. “Soon after City, United talked to Shakhtar and my agents. And today, if I’m not mistaken, there is very strong interest from United.

“My head is in the World Cup. My agents are taking care of it. I try to do my work in the field and leave the extra field for Gilberto Silva. My staff are looking at what is best for me. Who knows after the World Cup I can make the best choice for me.”

City submitted a €50million bid for Fred in January – €10m short of his €60m (£52.6m) release clause – but the former Internacional player still seems set to move to Manchester
